The chef is clearly very good at his craft. Everything was delicious. If we are to go again, I would like to try even more items on the specials menu. Although the leg of duck is in everyone’s opinion the best main course of all!
Picture 2 travelers at a crosswalk in Hamilton wondering out loud which pub to check out, and out of nowhere, this man - Ben - comes around and gives awesome suggestions. Needless to say, he is a local, but also mentions that he is the head chef at Mad Hatters and that we should try and check it out while on vacation. Fast forward to NYE's eve and we decided to take our chance to grab seats as walk-ins the moment they opened. We weren't able to call ahead as we only had internet service on our phones. The host, although doubtful, was kind enough to check and luckily there were 2 seats, orchestra nonetheless, that we just needed to vacate by 8pm. The restaurant atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for – intimate, but not stiff. The menu was small and made it easy to choose, but also challenging to not want to order everything! We ordered bacon-wrapped scallops with a pepper, mango, tamarind glaze for appetizers, and the sauté rock fish with a banana nut crust & dark n’ stormy sauce and surf and turf special for our entrees. Let me tell you, we were so glad that this was our last dinner before leaving Bermuda. Everything was so good, and you can tell that the dishes were made to order and fresh! Ben, as it turns out is not just the head chef, but also part-owner. During service, he casually sang and danced his way out of the kitchen, spotted us, and made sure to acknowledge that he remembered us, and he was thankful we were able to dine in, as we were just as thankful for the pub recommendations and leading us to his restaurant. He even invited us for champagne for their New Year’s Eve celebration at midnight! If only we weren’t flying back home in the morning... If there’s one place worth checking out and dining to when you’re in Bermuda, it’s definitely at Mad Hatter’s. Fine dining, but with a relaxed atmosphere, outstanding food, and amazing people.
As usual I was not disappointed with the food, service or the atmosphere. Had my 2 friends with me and it was their first dining experience at Madhatters. Delicious ,crunchy and fresh were some of the words they used to describe their meal.
Found this place on google and decided to try based on the good reviews. When we arrived it was basically empty (Saturday night). The restaurant is very old and has a musky smell which was a bit off putting. The ambience was really the worst part… it’s way out dated and not very welcoming at all. The food was good and flavorful but very very heavy. I ended with a stomach ache, not because the food was bad but because it was very fatty. I do have to say the waiter was very nice and the chefs are doing their best but I really feel like this place needs a total remodel. That would definitely attract more people and help with the whole experience since I do feel the energy of the place over powers the flavor of the food. Overall an ok experience. But definitely way better compared to other restaurants on the island!
Had dinner with my family earlier in the week and the food was amazing! Spectacular, friendly service. One member of our party is hard of hearing and our server handled that very well - speaking clearly and directly. We have multiple of their specials, the Salmon, the Rockfish, Surf & Turf and Veal, + dessert and all was spectacular! Kudos to the team! The restaurant is away from the core which is nice, and the patio was very atmospheric.
